A sinus infection, or sinusitis, is one of the most common health conditions in the United States. Each year, more than 37 million Americans suffer from sinusitis. That's more than one in every ten people! Fortunately, there is a new treatment method available to help ease their discomfort.
This surgery is called Stapedectomy Surgery, which involves removing the stapes bone. After the stapes bone is removed, an implant is manufactured out of Teflon and platinum and is installed and replaced. This implant is also incredibly small and serves to function as the stapes bone.
Occasionally, small pieces of crystallized calcium will break loose in the inner ear. If these crystallized fragments end up in the wrong place, they can cause short spells of dizziness. Most of the time, these spells occur as a result of sudden head movement. BPPV usually disappears within a few days.

Dr. Light received his ENT training at NYU Medical Center. His subspecialty focus includes medical and surgical treatment of sinus problems, and also, ear disease, for which he received fellowship training at the Ear Research Foundation.
